Airblue Crash Kills All 152 On Board
A flight operated by Airblue, a private Pakistani carrier that offers domestic and international services, crashed on Wednesday amid rainy and foggy weather. The jet was en route from Karachi to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, with 6 crew and 146 passengers on board. This has been named the worst air incident for the country ever, as all of the people on the flight were killed.
In photos taken of the crash site, the wreckage is seen in a heavily-forested area known as Margalla Hills, just north of the capital, which was shrouded in fog. Smoke and fire could been seen rising from the wreckage, while it took several hours for rescue workers to get to the scene. It’s been reported that, by the end of the evening, they were able to account for all the crew and passengers, but nobody survived.
According to official reports, Benazir Bhutto International Airport air traffic controllers told the pilot on his final approach to divert the plane due to thick cloud cover and rain. Interior Minister Rehman Malik has suggested, however, that there may have been some confusion between the pilot and controllers. This is a tragic accident, he continued, but it’s too soon to tell what caused the crash. A full investigation will be conducted, he added.
Experts in the aviation industry have questioned if they followed the proper procedures, as the position of the wreckage indicates that the aircraft went beyond the margins of safety. However, it seems as though the pilot just didn’t get the warning, as it’s been said that he lost contact with the airport. When the plane’s black box if found, these questions are sure to be answered.
