Baoxing Chen and Kimo Tam named ADI Fellows for their innovation and leadership.

Norwood, MA (08/09/2010) – Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, named Mr. Baoxing Chen and Mr. Kimo Tam to the distinguished position of ADI Fellow.
The honor of Analog Devices Fellow is awarded to engineers who contribute significantly to Analog Devices’ business success and demonstrate exceptional innovation, leadership, entrepreneurial ability, and consulting skills. In addition, an ADI Fellow must be a company ambassador, demonstrating an unparalleled ability to bridge organizations and teach and mentor others within the company. Chen and Tam were recognized by Analog Devices’ chairman and co-founder Ray Stata during the company’s 2010 General Technical Conference.
“Engineering excellence and innovation continue to set ADI apart,” said Sam Fuller, chief technology officer for Analog Devices. “We are fortunate that exceptional engineers such as Baoxing Chen and Kimo Tam, who are well-known both inside and outside the company for their expertise, have chosen to make their careers at Analog Devices. They exemplify the excellence in innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and generosity of knowledge that fuels ADI’s reputation as one of the industry’s most innovative companies, inspiring future generations of engineers.”
Chen earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Michigan in 1997. He then joined ADI where he quickly gained recognition as an expert in isolation and integrated magnetic technology and has contributed significantly to all aspects of product development, including design, packaging, process development and applications engineering. Additionally, Chen has expanded his role to influence product definition, strategic planning and interaction with customers while also publishing extensively in leading technical journals.
Chen, who holds 13 U.S. patents and has four pending, played a key role in the development of ADI’s iCoupler® digital isolation technology used in a wide variety of applications, including medical devices and industrial equipment that must comply with electrical safety regulations. iCoupler digital isolators replace optocouplers in providing a means to transmit data and power across an isolation boundary that protects people and equipment from dangerous voltage surges. Chen’s contributions in the areas of iCoupler product development greatly enhanced ADI’s leadership in this product category.
Tam joined Analog Devices in 1994 after completing a Doctor of Science degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been a leader in creating high performance analog and digital switching and signal integrity products, as well as related core technology for embedded applications. Within the electronics industry, Tam is a recognized authority on high-speed serial data communication circuits.
Tam’s early contributions centered on analog video switching products, a category he pioneered at ADI with a portfolio of industry leading products. More recently, Tam has been instrumental in defining the core technology to increase the data rates of networking switches, pushing the performance boundaries of ADI’s high-speed processes. His 20 patents include developments in analog switching, low distortion amplifiers, digital switching and advanced equalization techniques. Tam has 5 additional patents pending.
