20-V Step-Down DC-to-DC Non-Synchronous Regulators Simplify Intermediate Power Bus and Point-of-load Power Designs
Norwood, MA – Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, today introduced the ADP2300 and ADP2301 dc-to-dc switching regulators, the most recent in their growing portfolio of integrated power management switching regulators. The new 20V 1.2A (amp) step-down, dc-to-dc switching regulators integrate a high-side MOSFET that delivers power conversion efficiencies greater than 90 percent. The new regulators also feature internal loop compensation, integrated soft-start circuitry and bootstrap diodes to enable high-density solutions for intermediate bus generation and point-of-load regulation. The highly integrated ADP2300 and ADP2301 are available in small TSOT packages.
These ADP2300 and ADP2301 also support a wide input voltage range from 3 V to 20 V to accommodate a diversity of point-of-load applications, including consumer electronics and industrial and communications infrastructure equipment. This output voltage is adjustable from 0.8 V to 90 percent of input voltage (VIN). The regulators’ current-mode, fixed-frequency PWM (pulse-width modulation) architecture provides excellent stability and transient response. Under light loads, the regulators automatically operate in PFM (pulse frequency modulation) to reduce light load losses. A precision enable pin allows the regulator to be turned on at a precise input voltage for sequencing of multiple devices. System reliability and protection are enhanced further through OCP (overcurrent protection), UVLO (undervoltage lockout) and TSD (thermal shutdown).

With a wide input voltage range up to 20 V, the ADP2300 and ADP2301 support a variety of signal-chain loads where circuits may include ADCs (analog to digital converters), DACs (digital-to-analog converters), precision amplifiers and other high-performance, submicron ICs such as DSPs (digital signal processors) and FPGAs (field programmable gate arrays). The fast transient response and ease-of-use make these switching regulators a good match for powering FPGAs and Analog Devices’ Blackfin and SHARC Processors. Analog Devices’ integrated power management switching regulators are also supported by the ADIsimPower design tool, which makes selecting components, simulating power supply performance and building evaluation circuits easy and fast.
