NCAA Football 11 Goes Hollywood
EA SPORTS kicked off the 2010 college football season in style Monday at the NCAA® Football 11 launch event held at the W Hotel in Hollywood, CA.
In conjunction with the ESPYs, a number of athletes, celebrities, and special guests made appearances in the EA SPORTSTM NCAA® Football 11 Gaming Lounge, and were among the first to get hands-on experience with the newly released game.
“Tecmo Bowl was my game growing up, but this is my game now,” said San Diego State alum and current Jacksonville Jaguar linebacker Kirk Morrison, who customized his new PlayStation®3 system onsite with his name and the slogan of ‘Prepare to Battle’ engraved across the top. “Be on the lookout (on Twitter) for my new gamertag soon. I’m coming after you.”
While veteran players like Morrison refueled their will to win during Monday night’s event, the EA SPORTSTM NCAA® Football 11 Gaming Lounge also gave newcomers a chance to lead their favorite school to victory for the first time.
“This game could trigger the end of my career,” said NCAA® Football rookie Craig Robinson, star of The Office, Last Comic Standing, and Hot Tub Time Machine. “I can see myself playing this game all day long. There’s no way I would be able to get anything done.”
Based on his early performance, however, Robinson may need to play all day long to fine-tune his skills before quitting his day job.
During an exhibition game and playing as Oklahoma State, Robinson managed to convert zero first downs-or positive yardage for that matter-during his first two drives of the game.
But the tough luck against Oregon State was short lived.
Robinson found his rhythm on his third possession, leading Oklahoma State down the field before benching himself for the remainder of the game once his engraving was complete.
As for what Robinson had engraved on his customized PlayStation®3 system, well, let’s just say that it was a tad R-rated … and one of the funniest moments of the night.
I guess the college kid in some of us never die.
When guests weren’t playing the game or engraving borderline profanities on their PlayStation®3 systems, they could be found snapping a series of fun pictures inside the EA SPORTS photo booth or answering questions live on Facebook.
Along with Morrison and Robinson, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones and USA World Cup team captain Carlos Bocanegra spent a few minutes answering questions from fans online.
From “What school do you play as the most?” to “Did the vuvuzelas annoy the snot out of you during the World Cup?,” they tried to cover ‘em all.
The night was capped by an appearance by NCAA® Football 11 cover athlete Tim Tebow, who was the undisputed hero of the evening after autographing a copy of the game for the youngest attendee.
The behind-the-scenes coverage from the EA SPORTSTM NCAA® Football 11 Gaming Lounge continues through Wednesday. Be sure to follow us live throughout the day at ncaafootball.easports.com, facebook.com/easportsncaafootball, and twitter.com/EASPORTS.
