Steel Diver, in shops now for Nintendo 3DS, puts you in charge of your very own submarine in three exciting game modes. Today you can take a behind the scenes look at bringing this submarine simulation to the surface.

In the latest Iwata Asks interview, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata talks to Nintendo’s Senior Managing Director and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, as well as Giles Goddard from Vitei Inc. and Imamura-san and Sugiyama-san from Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis & Development Division.

Goddard talks about his early days working for Nintendo on the Star Fox project, while Sugiyama reveals how Miyamoto kept pushing him to develop the game from its origin as demo software for Nintendo DS.

Find out why Imamura sees the Missions mode of Steel Diver as “F-Zero in slow motion” and read about how each of the three distinct game modes came to be.

Head over to our Iwata Asks hub to read Iwata Asks: Steel Diver.
