Globovision owes 2.36 million dollars in taxes by opposition propaganda
In accordance with the notice carried out by the national tax agency, Globovision has a debt of 5.073.589,37 bolivares (about 2,359,809 dollars), by means of donations and interest fines.
The SENIAT procedure started on March 18th 2004 and Globovision filed an appeal on June 17th 2005.
The ?donations? carried out by Globovision were used during the broadcasting of advertising spots undersigned by Mujeres por la Libertad (Women for Freedom), Coordinadora Democr?tica (Democratic Coordinator) and Renovaci?n Democratica (Democratic Renovation), among other fronts used by the opposition.
The estimations carried out by the tax agency are calculated upon the base of the fees in use at that time and those refer only to the advertising spots, regardless of the fact that Globovision programming was addressed to destabilize, sabotage the economic production and overthrow the legally constituted Government.
The appeal filed by Globovision tried to argument that the ?messages? lacked of economic value.
The estimations calculated by the SENIAT agency were carried out taking as base the cheapest fee that the company Globovision charged during December 2002.
Once again, Globovision head Alberto Federico Ravell defended the non-fulfillment with the national treasury, saying that it is a political action.

To have an idea of how things work in Venezuela, take the following example: this Sunday (June 21st, 2009) Ch?vez used a significant part of his Al? Presidente one man show on Channel 8 TV to hawk products of his “socialist” factories, such as disposable diapers, vinegar and grape juice. This of course is exactly analogous to Globovisi?n offering free space for opposition advertising which is supposedly the cause of the fine this article refers to.
Let us now set our stop watches to see how long it will take the SENIAT to fine Ch?vez and/or Channel 8 TV.
