Cameron Slip Shows Contempt for Voters

31 May 2009 14 No Comment
Tory Leader David Cameron showed the strain of fighting a Euro elections campaign today with a clear case of amnesia on Sky’s Sunday Live Adam Boulton show.

Cameron mistakenly claimed that UKIP had voted to allow Spanish vessels into British waters during a European Parliament vote on fishing rights and quotas in the Shetland Box.

In fact, UKIP voted that British vessels should have the right to 100% of the Shetland Box quota ? it was the Conservatives themselves that voted to give Spanish and French vessels 60%, with just 40% left for British fishermen.

Siding with them on this disastrous decision were Labour, Lib Dems and the Scottish Nationalists.

UKIP Leader Nigel Farage was amazed at Cameron’s selective memory recall.

“This nonsense about UKIP voting to allow in Spanish vessels is just about the only reference in this European Parliament election campaign that David Cameron has made to Europe,” he said.

“And even that it is also totally, provably, wrong. Under pressure, he’s accusing UKIP of what his own party actually did. It simply shows the contempt the Tory leader has for the
British voting public.

“He might have problems with his memory, but the British voting public certainly doesn’t and they’ll prove that on Thursday at the ballot box where they’ll show they haven’t forgotten all the broken Tory promises over Europe.”
