SAN DIEGO – Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, today issued the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Plan:

Qualcomm supports the National Broadband Plan released today by Chairman Julius Genachowski and the FCC, particularly because the Plan seeks to ensure that every person and business in the United States has access to affordable mobile broadband. Qualcomm believes the Plan lays a strong foundation for continued innovation, investment and job creation in mobile technology.

Qualcomm applauds the Plan’s call for substantially more spectrum for mobile broadband, which has the potential to improve virtually every facet of American life. The FCC recognizes the rapid pace at which mobile broadband devices and applications are being introduced, the resulting burgeoning increase in wireless data traffic, and the need for new spectrum to ensure that mobile broadband networks can keep pace with this growth. As the FCC found, allocating and auctioning more spectrum for mobile broadband will enable the use of this technology to drive improvements in many areas that are fundamental to America’s future, including education, health care, energy conservation and public safety.

Qualcomm was pleased to participate in the FCC’s proceedings leading up to the release of the Plan and looks forward to working with the FCC and other public and private sector stakeholders to implement the Plan.
