Chancellor Alistair Darling announced the introduction of a Government Scrappage Scheme as part of the April 2009 Budget.  If you scrap your vehicle and it’s over 10 years old, the Government will provide an allowance of £1,000 towards a new car and Fiat will give you an additional ECO-Bonus of at least £1,000. 

The Government has set aside £300m towards the scheme which will be matched by participating car manufacturers.

Summary of the scheme

The scheme starts from 18th May 2009 and runs until the end of February 2010 or until the Government funding has been used, whichever is sooner

The scheme is open to new cars or light commercial vehicles (LCVs) weighing up to 3.5 tonnes

It excludes Channel Islands & Isle of Man

Your old vehicle MUST:

• Be a car or LCV weighing up to 3.5 tonnes 
• Have been first registered in the UK on or before 31 August 1999
• Either be registered or have a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in your name
• Have been registered to you continuously for the past 12 calendar months
• Have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C) in the same name as the new vehicle
• Have a current MOT test certificate
• The old vehicle must not be an insurance write-off or subject to any financing arrangement

The new vehicle you want to buy must be:

• A car or LCV weighing up to 3.5 tonnes
• First registered in the UK on or after 18 May 2009
• Declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers
• Your new model should be a UK specification vehicle
• It should be registered to the same keeper at the same UK address as the vehicle being scrapped

What do I need to do?

• In order to benefit from the cash incentive, all you need to do is take your eligible vehicle to your participating Fiat Dealer and select the vehicle you would like to purchase. 
• You will need to take all of the relevant documents with you (e.g. your V5 vehicle log book, valid MOT certificate and proof of identity)
• Your participating Fiat Dealer will then organise all the paperwork for you, will check the eligibility of the vehicle to be scrapped, verify your identity and arrange the destruction of your old vehicle. It couldn’t be easier. Click here for your nearest Fiat Dealer.
