The Boston Consulting Group Opens Three New Offices, Including Its First in Africa, Following Strong Finish in 2009
BOSTON — The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) announced today the opening of three new offices, including its first on the African continent. The new offices – in Casablanca (Morocco), Canberra (Australia), and Istanbul (Turkey) – bring the firm’s total number of offices to 69 in 40 countries.
The announcement follows a strong 2009 for BCG, in which the firm posted a 3 percent gain in global revenues at constant exchange rates. That performance came despite a challenging economic environment that saw revenue declines across the industry. BCG’s revenues grew to $2.75 billion. In addition, the firm increased its worldwide consultant headcount by 2 percent, to 4,400.
“It is truly a testament to the quality of our people and their ability to help clients tackle their most difficult issues that we were able to continue growing during the downturn,” said Hans-Paul Bürkner, BCG’s president and CEO. “We feel now is a good time to be expanding so that we can serve existing clients better and more easily reach new ones. Having an office in Africa will help us to learn more about and engage on the challenges that African companies and Africa-based executives face,” said Bürkner.
“Canberra increases our presence in Australia to three offices, and allows us to work more directly with the important business and government communities there,” he added. “Istanbul, so uniquely situated on two continents and the fifth-largest city in the world, will also bring many new opportunities for impact.”
