Prime Minister welcomes locations for new nuclear power stations

The Prime Minister has welcomed the confirmation of potential locations for new nuclear power stations while on a visit to Sellafield today.

Mr Brown’s visit followed an announcement by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) that they expect to nominate Sellafield, Wylfa, Oldbury and Bradwell as appropriate sites for future power stations.

The PM, who was accompanied by Energy Minister Mike O’Brien on the visit to the West Cumbria plant, said that the new facilities would bring a multi-million pound investment opportunity for the region and the wider UK economy.

He said:

“During construction, each new station would bring as many as 9,000 jobs, create up to 1,000 skilled long-term jobs when operational, and
