Europe’s Cultural Capitals Take Centre Stage
As the curtain rises on week seven of Four Seasons Cultural Capitals programme, European properties give guests a rousing reception and encourage them to show their appreciation for the Performing Arts.
Budapest’s Spring Festival (March 19 – April 5) illuminates the city with a cultural rainbow of events, from ballet flamenco to operetta theatre; from modern Hungarian choral culture to the masterworks of Bach and Ellington. Those of a classical persuasion will find their own pot of gold during a Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace exclusive guided tour: choose from Bartók Memorial House, culminating in an exclusive concert showcasing Bartók’s finest works; or the Ference Liszt Museum, including the chance to view original documents, letters and scores in the museum’s archives – an opportunity not available to the public.
In Florence, it’s time to be romanced by the dance of love at the annual Firenze Tango Festival (April 22-25). Seeking a more exclusive performance than those offered around the city? Four Seasons Hotel Firenze can arrange a private exhibition by a troupe of ten “Tangueros” accompanied by live musicians playing pieces by Puglese and Piazzola and the famous Cumparsita. Or why not perfect those enrosques and sacadas during a private lesson with two professional tango dancers amongst the Renaissance frescoes of the Hotel’s magnificent Gherardesca Ballroom?
During the Dublin Dance Festival (May 7-23), the city sways with a panoply of performances and workshops that celebrate international, contemporary dance. Head to The Abbey – Ireland’s national theatre – with Four Seasons Hotel Dublin for guaranteed premium seats and a “meet the performers” private tour. Alternatively, visit Hampshire for a performance with a difference at the Milestones Living History Museum; learn about Hampshire’s Easter traditions (April 2-5) from costumed actors in the museum’s Victorian school or step back in time and meet the “locals” during a wander through the maze of streets, shops, village green (and even a pub) that date from Victorian times to the 1930s. At the end of a long day, revel in the culinary show-stoppers at Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire and its acclaimed Seasons Restaurant.
Whether it’s watching the contrasting performances of Oedipus and Robinson Crusoe in Lisbon’s National Theatre D. Maria II (until March 28), bopping at the outdoor headphone disco in Dublin (May
or catching a West End show in London (ongoing), Four Seasons can help put guests centre-stage – and recommend the best restaurants and hang-outs to rub shoulders with all the divas, dancers and directors afterwards.
